Toronto-born, Los Angeles-based artist STACEY returns with “Upside Down Merry Go Round,” her first original release in five years… a lush psych-pop track that pairs 1960s and ’70s warmth with the anxieties of modern life.
Co-written with Suzanne May and produced by STACEY and Dillon Casey, the song turns doom-scrolling, Zoom calls, bills and general existential overload into something unexpectedly radiant. STACEY describes it as “a rainbow-coloured panic attack,” with its feel-good arrangement deliberately pushing against the unease in the lyrics.
The accompanying 16mm video leans fully into the song’s retro-surrealist world, drawing from The Love Witch, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Cher, with handmade props including edible chocolate carousel horses created specifically for the shoot.
“Upside Down Merry Go Round” is out now, with release shows scheduled for Toronto, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.
