The Flaming Lips are marking 20 years of At War With The Mystics with a huge deluxe reissue arriving November 13 through Rhino / Warner Records.
The expanded edition comes in 6CD, 6LP and digital formats, pulling together the remastered 2006 album with 19 previously unreleased demos, 14 previously unreleased studio recordings and another 42 non-album tracks. It also brings U.F.O.’s At The Zoo to CD for the first time alongside a previously unreleased 2006 concert from the Hollywood Bowl.
Among all that excavation is a look at how songs like “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song,” “Free Radicals” and “The W.A.N.D.” took shape before becoming some of the strangest, biggest moments of the band’s mid-2000s run.
“The Sound of Failure (2 Demos)” is streaming now. The full At War With The Mystics: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition lands November 13.
