Empath vocalist and guitarist Catherine Elicson has released two new singles, “I’m On Fire” and “All Sound,” ahead of her debut solo album, River Of Fat, arriving November 6 via Community Music.
Recorded with longtime collaborator Shaun Sutkus, the nine-track album finds Elicson exploring a more stripped-back approach to songwriting, using guitar, synthesizers, samplers and a four-track tape machine. Each song was performed live to tape, with arrangements designed to be recreated onstage alone.
“I’m On Fire” explores emotional isolation through heavy, hypnotic repetition, while the entirely improvised “All Sound” embraces spontaneity and imperfection. Drawing inspiration from John Cale, The Urinals and Amen Dunes, River Of Fat reveals a more intimate side of Elicson’s musicianship.
