Marika Hackman has announced her fifth studio album, False Dogs, arriving February 19, 2027 via Chrysalis Records, alongside its opening single and accompanying video, “33.”
Written, produced and arranged entirely by Hackman, who also plays almost every instrument, the album explores the strange territory of your mid-thirties, where childhood expectations collide with the realities of aging, grief and changing priorities.
Recorded between her East London studio and Ramsgate’s Big Jelly Studios, with contributions from Charlie Andrew and Art School Girlfriend, False Dogs incorporates field recordings of crashing waves, church bells and fireworks alongside Hackman’s intimate songwriting.
Lead single “33” features a children’s choir and confronts the uneasy relationship between nostalgia and the future. “Keep pushing, it’s worth it,” Hackman explains, describing a song about finding something to celebrate in the moments between.
