Texas-raised singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Elliott Skinner will release his debut solo EP, How Far We’ve Come, September 18 via Ninja Tune, marking the first full project released under his own name after years spent working alongside artists including Jon Batiste, Leon Bridges, Chaka Khan and Chance the Rapper.
The six-song record pulls folk and soul into Skinner’s interpretation of the Black Radical Music tradition, using reflection as its center point: getting older, returning to the curiosity of childhood, wrestling with doubt and trying to understand how a life becomes more meaningful. Twenty years after writing his first song, Skinner describes the EP as an introduction to the musical world he has been slowly building.
How Far We’ve Come includes previously released “DON’T BE A RUNNER,” named a “Song You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone, alongside “THAT KID” featuring Jensen McRae. Victoria Canal and Radamiz also appear on “Carols of My Mind.”
Skinner begins a fall tour September 10, including a run of dates with anaiis and stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.
