Protomartyr have shared “Feed the Sewer,” the second single from their forthcoming album Hotel Usona, out September 25 via Domino.
The Detroit band’s latest turns its attention to artificial intelligence, surveillance and the willingness to trade pieces of our humanity for convenience. Joe Casey describes the song as being built from “political fears, personal grievances, literary references, and poop jokes,” while director Andrew Theodore Balasia’s accompanying video places that unease inside a monitored motel where every room becomes another source of data.
Hotel Usona was recorded with Dave Fridmann at Tarbox Road Studios in western New York. Across the record, Casey imagines America as an aging hotel, with each song occupying another room and another troubled guest.
Protomartyr begin an extensive world tour this fall, including an October 31 stop in Austin supporting The Jesus and Mary Chain.
