Brooklyn-based songwriter, producer, and DJ Blue Mena has announced their sophomore album, Pure Luck, arriving January 22 via Roc Nation Distribution, alongside two new singles, “Jamie” and “Troublemakers.” The twelve-track record blends hazy dream pop, warped electronics, and intimate storytelling, exploring queer romance, identity, and the unpredictable encounters that shape our lives.
Inspired by James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room, “Jamie” pairs dreamy dance-pop production with a story of emotional avoidance and complicated desire. Its self-directed video captures fragments of New York City life, while “Troublemakers” explores the freedom and vulnerability found within the city’s queer nightlife, reflecting on belonging, survival, and the darker realities of underground culture.
Written across Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and upstate New York, Pure Luck was mixed by Mena alongside Mikaelin Bluespruce (Solange, Blood Orange), with contributions from saxophonist Levon Henry and pedal steel guitarist Dustin Deetz. Drawing inspiration from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the album transforms fleeting connections and personal upheaval into richly textured, cinematic pop.
